Terms.
Effective October 4, 2026 · Applies to the Den product, app.den.house, and the den.house website
These are the terms for using Den. Den (“Den”, “we”, “us”) operates the service. By signing up, or by texting Den, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Den.
We’ve tried to write this the way we’d want to read it: short and plain. A few parts are in capital letters because the law expects that.
What Den is
Den is a household assistant you reach by text message. It keeps track of what’s coming for your household, reminds people, and helps with errands the household asks for.
Den is an early product built by a small team, and it is invite-only. Features will change, some things will break, and we may add, limit or remove parts of the service as we learn. We’ll tell households about changes that matter.
Who can use Den
- Adults only. You must be 18 or older. When you tap Send code at sign-up, you confirm that you are.
- By invitation. You need an invite, or a join link from an adult already in the household. Invites and join links are for the person they were given to.
- US mobile numbers. Sign-up currently needs a US mobile number that can receive a text.
- Your own, accurate details. Sign up with your own phone number, email address and name, and keep them current. You’re responsible for what is sent from your number.
- Children are never users. Den has no child-facing features and does not text children. Adults may tell Den things about their kids (a pickup time, an allergy); the adults in the household are responsible for what they share.
Text messages
Den works by text, so here is exactly what you’re agreeing to receive.
- The program. Two kinds of messages: (1) one-time verification codes when you sign up or sign in, sent by SMS and email by our sign-in provider, Clerk; and (2) messages from Den, the household assistant, over iMessage, RCS or SMS — replies to what you send, reminders, briefs, and follow-ups on things your household asked for.
- Consent. By entering your number and tapping Send code, you agree that Den may text that number. Den does not send its first message until you text it.
- How often. Verification codes: one per request. Messages from Den: it varies with how much your household uses it.
- Cost. We don’t charge for texts. Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile plan.
- Stopping. Reply STOP to any message from Den and Den stops texting that number. Texting is how Den works, so Den can’t do its job for a number that has opted out. To start again later, sign up again through an invite or join link, or email us.
- Help. Email hello@den.house.
- The fine print. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. We don’t sell your phone number or share it with anyone for their marketing. How we handle it is in the Privacy Policy.
Your household and shared information
- Den is shared. What you tell Den in a household thread, or ask it to remember for the household, can be seen and used by the other adults in your household, and may show up in Den’s replies to them.
- Adding people. The first adult to sign up can invite another adult with a join link. Adults in a household can add or remove people as the product allows.
- Other people’s information. Only share information about other people (family, a sitter, a teacher) that you have the right to share. If you ask Den to contact someone outside your household, you confirm you’re allowed to have them contacted. Den tells them it is an assistant, and stops if they ask it to.
AI, and who decides
- Den uses AI, and AI makes mistakes. Den’s replies, reminders, summaries and drafts are generated by AI models. They can be wrong, incomplete or out of date: a date misread from an email, a reminder that doesn’t arrive, a detail it gets confused.
- You stay in charge. Check anything that matters before relying on it. You are responsible for your household’s decisions and for what you approve Den to do.
- Not professional advice, not for emergencies. Den is not a doctor, lawyer, financial adviser or emergency service. Don’t rely on Den for anything where a missed or late message could cause harm. In an emergency, call 911.
Money and purchases
- Den never moves money. No bank transfers, bill pay, person-to-person payments or investing.
- Purchases happen with the merchant. If Den helps with a purchase (for example, by putting together a cart), you review it and pay on the merchant’s own checkout. That purchase is between you and the merchant, under the merchant’s terms. Check the cart before you pay.
Connected accounts and other services
If you connect an account (such as Google Calendar) or forward email to Den, you authorize Den to access and use that information to provide the service to your household, as described in the Privacy Policy. You can disconnect at any time. Those services, your phone carrier and your messaging apps are run by other companies under their own terms; we aren’t responsible for them.
Acceptable use
Please don’t:
- use Den for anything illegal, or to harass, threaten, stalk, deceive or spam anyone;
- use Den to message people who haven’t agreed to hear from your household;
- sign up with someone else’s phone number or pretend to be someone else;
- let a child use Den as if they were the adult on the account;
- try to break, overload, probe or get around Den’s security or limits, or get into another household’s data;
- resell Den, or use it to build a competing product.
Your content
What your household sends Den stays yours. You give us permission to use it only to run Den for your household. We don’t sell it and we don’t use it to train generalized AI models. The details, including how to delete it, are in the Privacy Policy.
The Den service itself, including its software, name and design, belongs to us. If you send us feedback, we may use it without owing you anything.
Price and payment
Den is a paid subscription that starts with a free trial. The price and the length of the trial are shown to you before you are asked to pay, and you’re only charged after you add a card. Payments are handled by Stripe; Den never sees your card number.
The full billing terms (how the subscription renews, how to cancel, and refunds) are not final yet. We will show them to you, and update this section, before anyone is asked to pay.
Ending things
- You can stop any time. Reply STOP, or email hello@den.house to close your household’s account and have its data deleted as described in the Privacy Policy.
- We can suspend or end access if you break these terms, if we need to protect other people or the service, or if we stop offering Den. Den is early; if we wind it down, we’ll give households notice where we reasonably can.
- The sections on disclaimers, liability and disputes continue to apply after your access ends.
Disclaimers
DEN IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON’T PROMISE THAT DEN WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ON TIME, ACCURATE OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY MESSAGE OR REMINDER WILL BE DELIVERED.
Limits on our liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, DEN IS NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, OR MISSED APPOINTMENTS, DEADLINES OR EVENTS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ABOUT DEN IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) WHAT YOUR HOUSEHOLD PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AND (B) US $100.
Some places don’t allow some of these limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Disputes and governing law
If something goes wrong, email hello@den.house first; we’d like the chance to fix it. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
Arbitration. If we can’t resolve it informally within 30 days, you and Den agree that any dispute about Den or these terms will be decided by binding arbitration run by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, not in court. The arbitration takes place by phone, video or written submissions, or in person in New York County, New York if either side asks for a hearing. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in small-claims court, and either of us may go to court to stop misuse of intellectual property.
No class actions. You and Den may bring claims only as individuals, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class or representative proceeding, and the arbitrator may not combine more than one person’s claims.
Opting out. You can opt out of arbitration by emailing hello@den.house within 30 days of first agreeing to these terms. If you opt out, or if this arbitration section is found unenforceable, disputes go to the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Den changes. If a change is material, we’ll update the effective date above and tell households before it takes effect. If you keep using Den after that, you accept the new terms.
The rest
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and Den about the service. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce something right away, we haven’t given it up. You can’t transfer your rights under these terms to someone else; we may transfer ours as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the business.
